A subjective measure of light, either produced by a light source (a lamp, the sun, a video screen, etc.) or reflected off a surface (an object in the camera's frame, a projection screen, etc.). Objective measures of brightness are expressed in lumens or nits (candela/m2).

Amelia (Essie Davis) notices something strange coming from the kitchen. After she enters the kitchen, a cockroach lands on her shoulder. She brushes it off and notices more cockroaches crawling from under the fridge. She moves the fridge to her right and peels back the wallpaper and uncovers a hole and cockroaches start crawling out of it. Puzzled and worried, she gasps and jumps back. There is silence before her son, Samuel (Noah Wiseman), walks casually towards the kitchen but stops abruptly when Amelia commands him not to enter. The scene abruptly cuts to Amelia frantically mopping the floor.
