Film Language Tag: synchronous sound

Sound recorded at the time that the picture was shot, most often dialogue. It is very important that the camera be running with crystal or cable sync so that it maintains a steady rate and that the sound recorder has a similar means of ensuring consistent playback. Otherwise, as the shot progresses, picture and sound may move out of sync. This does not include room tone, wild sound, and other sound elements recorded without synchronous images. Kroon, R. W.
